At MenuTrinfo, following FDA guidelines has always been our policy. We take great care to guarantee that our services, training and Certified Free From™ allergen certifications reflect the most current and accurate allergen information outlined by the FDA as a governing body.

What changed as of January 6th, 2025?

On January 6th, the FDA issued new allergen labeling guidance that included the removal of coconut and several other tree nuts from the official list of tree nuts. (You can view the full list here.) On January 15th, 2025, the FDA confirmed these changes to MenuTrinfo in writing and that the changes had already taken effect, so we will begin updating our internal processes immediately.

Impact on MenuTrinfo Services:

To align with these changes, MenuTrinfo will no longer flag coconut or the other removed tree nuts in our nutrition reports, AllerTrain® training materials, or on Certified Free From™ (CFF) seals. We will continue to flag milk and egg allergens, regardless of the animal species, as we have always done.

Estimated Timeline for Changes:

  • Nutrition: Effective immediately, all new client projects will only include the tree nuts currently listed by the FDA. By 2026, all allergen charts and reports will be fully aligned with the FDA’s updated allergen list.
  • Training: Certified AllerTrainer (CAT) led courses have already been updated to reflect the recent changes. Coconut and other impacted tree nuts will be fully removed from eLearning materials by the end of Q1 2025.
  • Certified Free From (CFF) Seal: The CFF seal will now only apply to the tree nuts currently listed on the FDA’s list, effective January 6th, 2025. Any clients currently working to include a “coconut-free” certification will be notified, and we will issue an updated seal version.
