Lorissa’s Kitchen becomes the first MenuTrinfo ‘certified free from’ allergen meat snack in the U.S., giving 33 million Americans to ability to ‘snack fearlessly.’

COLUMBIA, MD. (Aug. 1, 2024) – MenuTrinfo launched its “Certified Free From” (CFF) allergy certification in 2021 and Lorissa’s Kitchen is now the first meat snack in the U.S. to receive CFF certification.

“Partnering with MenuTrinfo means we can provide our customers with a high level of allergen transparency,” said Lorissa Link, the founder of Lorissa’s Kitchen. “After having a child with a laundry list of severe allergies, it really puts it in perspective for you as a parent. I knew that I wanted to create a snack my kids could enjoy without me stressing about what’s in it. After seeing MenuTrinfo’s rigorous standards around certifying food companies as ‘top 9 allergen free’ I knew this is what we needed to do for Lorissa’s Kitchen to give those parents peace of mind.”

MenuTrinfo first launched its CFF onsite assessment service in 2016 at the request of Cornell University. The service expanded into additional college and university foodservice programs in 2018 before entering the consumer packaged goods (CPG) space in 2021.

“Lorissa’s Kitchen came to us because she is so passionate about food allergies. More than 85 million Americans purchase food items that are free-from one or more of the top nine allergens, making it an important certification for Lorissa’s Kitchen and the products they sell,” said MenuTrinfo founder Betsy Craig. “This certification means consumers can ‘snack fearlessly’ when using their products.”

MenuTrinfo is the only company in the world offering ISO/IEC 17065 ANAB (ANSI National Standards Institute)-accreditation, which means certified items are free-from one or more of the top nine most common allergens: tree nuts, nuts, milk, eggs, shellfish, wheat, sesame, soy and fish. All CPG brands that carry this certification seal complete an onsite assessment and audit and are regularly tested to the CFF accreditation standards.

“We launched CFF to meet the needs of colleges and universities and have since grown into other areas of foodservice as more retailers are asking CPG providers to substantiate their allergen-free claims,” Craig said. “Lorissa’s Kitchen is leading the way for others to also back-up their claims of being allergen-free. Certification doesn’t happen quickly so the companies doing this are deeply committed to getting certified.”

Lorissa’s Kitchen products can be found in most Sprouts Farmers Market locations or online at www.lorissaskitchen.com. Currently, 16 CPG brands, each with multiple products, have earned the MenuTrinfo CFF seal since its launch.
