Found this article about fatty foods still being popular quite disheartening. KFC’s Double Down, Sonic’s Footlong hot dog and many other fast food associations are coming up with outrageous food products. Even Krispy Kreme is joining with the introduction of a Krispy Kreme Cheeseburger!  Even with all the awareness about obesity and people’s diets, people still want to eat these ridicules items on the menu.

Kelly Brownell, director of Yale University‘s Rudd Center for Food Policy, says these extreme meals are singling out a specific customer.
“They want to appeal to young men and to the contrarians who don’t want to be told what to eat by nutrition people,” he says.
The extreme dishes are still anomalies, but Brownell fears that the extra-large portions and fatty content will become the norm. When McDonald’s rolled out the Big Mac in 1967, the mere size of it was an attention-getter. If it came out today, though, it’s 540 calories and 29 grams of fat would barely raise an eyebrow.

I feel that these meals will only grow in popularity. People want to show their friends that they can eat these meals and push themselves to see how much they can eat at one time. As Americans, we like our food to be bigger and better than any where else and we a making sure that is true. There is even a show on t.v.called Man Vs. Food who tries to eat huge portion sizes of hamburgers, pizza, burritos and many other types of entrees. I feel that this show is starting to get chain restaurants to start producing these huge meals.
